St. Vincent – Cruel

Another strange, sinister song from Manhattan singer-songwriter St. Vincent. I am greatly looking forward to her new album Strange Mercy which comes out September 13 . One of my most anticipated releases of the year actually.

Girls – Honey Bunny

Girls are a band from San Francisco who bring back classic rock and pop music effortlessly. Their new song “Honey Bunny” definitely has a Beach Boys vibe to it. It combines happy music that you could dance to with lyrics that speak of loneliness, pain, sadness, and a mother’s love. This is one of my favorite songs Girls have put out and it is a great introduction to this band.

“Holocene” is one of my favorite songs from Bon Iver’s excellent self titled album. The video is great too.

Lana Del Rey – Video Games

Lana Del Rey aka Lizzy Grant has exquisite vocals that could easily remind people of the fifties but her vocals are also modern. She really does a good job embodying hollywood with her music. Her song “Video Games” is haunting and beautiful from the very beginning with the piano and harp playing. Sadness and the sacrifices made for fame can be heard in this song. It’s a unique song that is getting me excited to see what else Lana Del Rey will come up with.
